Book provisionally now, not later
This is the one line of the whole process that belongs to you. A provisional date costs nothing, can be moved as often as it needs to be, and can be cancelled if the offer falls through.
Leaving it until the date is confirmed is how people end up scrambling, because on these routes confirmation and the move itself are frequently much closer together than the wait beforehand would suggest.
Pack the things you are not using
Not the kitchen and not the beds — those have to stay until the end. But everything you have not touched recently can go into boxes now, and it removes most of the last-minute pressure.
- Books, papers, photographs, anything on a shelf.
- Out-of-season clothes and spare bedding.
- Things in the loft, the shed or the cupboard you have to stand on something to reach.
- Anything already in a box from the last move.
Decide what is not coming
Deciding is the slow part; disposing of it is quick. Work out now what is being sold, given away, recycled or thrown, so that when the date lands the only question is what time we start.
We can take away anything you are not keeping, with the disposal paperwork, so the old property goes back clear.
Find out what the hand-back requires
Your landlord will have written down what condition the property has to be left in. It is worth reading it early rather than discovering it in the last week — particularly anything about flooring, fixtures you have added, or the garden.
What there is no point worrying about
Whether the date will move. It might. That is what the provisional booking is for, and it is genuinely not a problem for us.
Whether you have too much for one van. Tell us roughly what you have and we will tell you. It is our job to know and not yours.
