Out of private renting
Who sets the date Two landlords at once
Leaving a private tenancy for a secure one. The best move on this list and the most administratively awkward, because two landlords are involved and neither of them is coordinating with the other.
What’s different about it
Two sets of dates that do not know about each other. A private tenancy ending and a social tenancy starting are governed by completely different arrangements, and they line up only by luck.
There is frequently a gap, and occasionally an overlap. A gap means storage. An overlap means paying twice for a period, which is unwelcome but is at least the easier problem to solve.
Your deposit is still at stake at the old address. Private landlord, private inventory, private check-out — all the usual rules apply, and a removal is the single biggest threat to that money.
The new property is usually barer than the old one. Private lets frequently come part-furnished; social tenancies almost never do, so there is more to buy and more arriving in the same week.
What we do
Store across a gap where the dates do not meet, sealed once and delivered when you have the keys
Protect halls, stairs and door frames at the private address, because that is where deposit deductions come from
Photograph the old property empty as we leave it and send the pictures to you as evidence
Sequence around whatever else is being delivered to the new place
The worry
Losing the deposit on the way out. Photograph everything before anything moves, and tell us it is a private tenancy so the protective work is priced in from the start.

Book before you have a date
It costs nothing, we will move it as many times as it needs moving, and if the offer falls through we will cancel it without any fuss. It is the only part of this you control.
